About Sunny Shores Sea Camp

Sunny shores sea camp

It all started with salt water…

Falcon Batchelor had fought against Cystic Fibrosis his entire life. CF is a genetic condition, so he’d been battling it personally since birth – but he had also rallied against it on behalf of others who suffered from it. One day, he noticed that his symptoms always seemed to feel better when he was in and around salt water.

Partnering with Dr. Robert McKey (a renowned CF Doctor) and Dick Gilmore (a CF parent), they stumbled upon a wonderful idea.

What if there were a summer camp where CF kids can come rest by the seashore, breathe the lovely salt-water air, get some exercise, surround themselves with other attendees who share their struggles, and learn from positive CF role models who could share knowledge for how to better their lives – at no cost to their families?

And so, Sunny Shores Sea Camp was born.

Falcon Batchelor lost his battle with CF in 1990, and Dr. McKey passed away in 2009… but our battle continues until the day when CF is no more. Until then, we will do whatever it takes to assure that Sunny Shores continues to change the lives of the deserving CF children each and every summer.

From the Beginning

Since 1980, Sunny Shores Sea Camp has been helping families and mentoring children with Cystic Fibrosis. Today, SSSC offers a four-night, five-day camp where attendees make new friends who face the same battles, while parents have the privilege of enjoying the beach and the resort while gaining life-changing information from doctors, guest speakers, and successful people living with Cystic Fibrosis.

For the past two decades, there has never been a charge to participants of this camp, thanks to the generosity of various donors and fundraisers.

Where Proceeds Go

All proceeds from the fundraisers go directly to this camp experience, as Sunny Shores Sea Camp is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that has worked in conjunction with companies, foundations, and community leaders for the past three decades.

Our success would not be possible without the generosity of the South Florida community in conjunction with our golf sponsors, product sponsors, donors and volunteers. All Board members of Sunny Shores Sea Camp are volunteers, who gladly donate their time. All net proceeds donated to Sunny Shores go directly to supporting camp.
