A BRIEF HISTORY

Falcon Batchelor, in 1980, was instrumental in founding Sunny Shores Sea Camp (SSSC) for Cystic Fibrosis. Falcon lived with cystic fibrosis for 35 years. Early in 1990, Al Massena and Dana Munsey, both friends of Falcon, discussed hosting a golf tournament as an annual fund raiser for SSSC. With the help of Bob Catel and many volunteers the first tournament took place in May 1990. Falcon attended the 1st annual SSSC golf tournament and was pleased with the success. Two months after the inaugural golf event, Falcon lost his battle with cystic fibrosis. In 1991, the Sunny Shores Sea Camp Golf Tournament was renamed The Falcon Batchelor Memorial Golf Tournament to honor Falcon’s contribution.

In 2016, our beloved President Dana Munsey then lost his battle – and we carry on his legacy.

WHY PLAY?

Sunny Shores Sea Camp exists entirely for the benefit of children and young adults suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, so that they can enjoy support, camaraderie, and fun activities designed to boost their physical and mental welfare at a beach environment, with peers who are fighting the same battle they are.

We simply couldn’t do any of this without the tremendous support we receive from our incredible community. Your competing in this tournament allows the campers and their families to attend camp at no cost to them. All of the Board members and volunteers at Sunny Shores donate their time, and this Golf Tournament is an opportunity for you to contribute in just as important a way.

As medical science progresses, we look forward to a day when Sunny Shores is no longer necessary. But until that day comes, we will do whatever it takes to ensure the battle continues. We hope to see you on the course!

What is the origin of the Sunny Shores Sea Camp Golf Tournament?

Falcon Batchelor, in 1980, was instrumental in founding Sunny Shores Sea Camp (SSSC) for cystic fibrosis. Early in 1990, Al Massena and Dana Munsey, both friends of Falcon, discussed hosting a golf tournament as an annual fund raiser for SSSC, and the first tournament was held that year. Falcon lost his battle to cystic fibrosis later that year, so in 1991, the tournament name was renamed, The Falcon Batchelor Memorial Golf Tournament to honor Falcon’s contribution.
